Why You Need a Portfolio Even if You Have a Great CV

The Reality

CVPortfolio

One page of claimsMultiple live URLs
Goes in a pileGets clicked
Recruiter reads it (maybe)Developer judges it

The 3-Portfolio Rule

Portfolio TypeWhat to Include
Work portfolio3 best professional projects (your actual job work)
Passion portfolio2 side projects that show curiosity
Open-source contributions1 non-trivial PR to a project you didn't create

Your Portfolio (Based on Your Actual Work)

Full e-commerce marketplace (INOVAMARK) — demonstrates complete system thinking ✅ Industrial product catalog (VICALU) — shows clean UI + SEO awareness ✅ Corporate agricultural site (Dynasty Group Ltd) — proves you understand business needs ✅ Fellowship portal (TechAscend) — shows form handling + multi-step flows ✅ Python NLP tool (TechX Sentiment) — demonstrates language understanding

What Makes a Strong Portfolio

Weak: > "I built an e-commerce site"

Strong: > "I built a full marketplace with vendor accounts, cart, Stripe payments, and multi-language support. It's live at [link]. It handles 25+ products, user auth, and order tracking."

How to Add Your Portfolio to Everything

LinkedIn:

  • Add URLs under "Projects" section
  • Featured section at top of profile

GitHub:

  • Pin repositories to profile
  • Add live links in README

Resume:

  • Add tiny URLs under each project
  • Better: add QR code linking to portfolio (shows tech awareness)

Email signature:

  • "Latest work: [Project name] → link"

Cold emails:

  • First line: "I built [Project] (link) which does [X]. Your company is doing [Y], which seems related."

Your Portfolio Checklist

  • 3+ live projects (you have 6) ✅
  • Each described in 2 sentences (problem → your role → outcome)
  • Easy to access (no login, no 'request access')
  • One portfolio page linking to all
  • Updated every time you ship something new
